Sad news

Wilma Morehead Biren, who was the Organizing Regent of Alliklik Chapter in Santa Clarita, passed away on Wednesday, June 23, 2010, in Chattanooga, TN, where she was living to be close to her only daughter, Joanne Gipe-Peek. In 1976 the Alliklik Chapter was organized, but prior to that she was a member of the Don Jose de Ortega Chapter. Wilma was a 25-plus year member of DAR. Her chosen profession was teaching and she taught in Los Angeles county until her retirement, and then continued to do substitute teaching in the Santa Clarita Valley until her move to Tennessee.
Wilma served as District VIII Director from 1982-1984; she served as District Chairman of the DAR Good Citizens committee as well as being Alliklik Chapter chairman of this committee for many years. As a California daughter she was on the Speakers Staff, was MOP at a State Conference and assisted with many debutante presentations for C.A.R. and was a native daughter, having been born in Dinuba, California, on April 12, 1916. There will be no funeral; her remains will be cared for by Eternal Valley Memorial Park in Newhall. Wilma was a beloved member of the Alliklik Chapter and affected the lives of many young people over her years of DAR service and teaching. She will be greatly missed by her family and friends. Please pray for them at this sad time.
