First off, I want to say, "WOW!" Tammy Collier, new member of Alliklik chapter offered to let us use her home's clubhouse for our meeting, AND she offered to purchase the food and decorate. Did I mention that Tammy is a NEW member? Way to hit the ground running, Tammy! The decorations were beautiful, the food was yummy, and all I heard was positive feedback.Second, I want to thank all of you who came to the meeting on Saturday. I appreciate that you were able to adjust your schedules in order to attend. We had a great group and some interesting discussions.
Jayne Scardello, D8 Project Patriot Committee Rep, did an outstanding job getting the boxes of donated
items ready to mail to Landstudhl Medical Center in Germany. Many, many thanks to our Junior Members, Kelly Nilges and Aimee Hansen, who got right to work packing and sorting the boxes. If you would like more information about Project Patriot, please contact Jayne or visit the Project Patriot Committee page on the NSDAR Members site.We did vote to donate $100 to Project Patriot, which will entitle us to purchase the beautiful committee pin. We will be voicing this pin at our February 9, 2008 meeting. Tickets will be sent out shortly.
Speaking of "voicing," if your chapter participates in raffles, opportunities, or whatever you choose to call them, you NEED to get a permit from the California Attorney General's office. The paperwork is due on September 1st. Click here for information.
Here are copies of some of the handouts which were distributed on Saturday:
- Order of Business for the 8/4/07 Meeting
- Planning Calendar for 2007-2008
- District VIII Standing Rules
- Chapter Development & Revitalization Advice from the DARlings
- How Open is Your Chapter's Door?
I will post the packet on Parliamentary Procedure & Protocol as soon as it is scanned.
Other items of interest:
- Adopt a Chaplain, Inc. (recommended by Chatsworth Chapter)
- Operation Gratitude (recommended by Fernanda Maria Chapter)
- Wounded Warrior Project (discussed at Continental Congress)
After the meeting, several of us went over to the Reagan Library to see the display of patriotic quilts, as well as tour the museum, visit, and eat junk food. Thank you to all the members and HODARs who came along for the ride. It was a very enjoyable afternoon.
