Sorry ladies, but I've been a bit slow in posting. It seems like there just aren't enough hours in the day sometimes. I did want to share a few things with you, so better late than never!Anyway, on August 7, 2007, I was so pleased to attend the grand opening of the new VA Clinic in Santa Maria. This would be the middle of nowhere to most of YOU, but to us, it's a big deal, and not too far of a drive, either!
There were hundreds of veterans in attendance, and about 150-200 received care on the first day. The clinic is expecting about 5,000 veterans to receive care there, eventually, since many of the "specialty" services from the Santa Barbara clinic will be moved to this new facility.
Attending the event were Julie Stranges, regent of Chatsworth
Chapter, Marianne Davis from Los Angeles-Eschscholtzia Chapter, and Susan Clack, regent of Captain Henry Sweetser Chapter in Santa Maria. Oh, and Delaney represented the Stephen Eastin Society C.A.R. (Santa Maria)! Julie and Marianne are VAVS from Sepulveda, and they "manned" (or "womaned??") the DAR information table with help from Susan. It was also great seeing Gary Cooper from the Central Coast Chapter SAR.Delaney and I got there in time for a brief tour of the clinic, as well as a few bites from the BBQ, but we unfortunately missed the ribbon cutting due to my having to rush off to PT. I think that Julie got a few nice pictures from this event, so hopefully she'll remember to share with our D8 Historian (hint, hint).
All in all, it was a very successful day - this clinic promises to be a great thing for veterans in the northern Santa Barbara County area.
