Have You Hugged a Junior Lately?

If not, your chance is coming.

Do you have a Junior Member in your chapter who really goes above and beyond for the DAR? Why not honor her with the Chapter Outstanding Junior Member Award?

The Outstanding Junior Member Contest began in 1963 to recognize Junior members of the National Society Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR). Honoring young women who have truly promoted the aims and purposes of the National Society, as well as participated in community activities, the contest encourages all Junior members to be vitally interested and involved in DAR programs and projects. Recognition on the chapter, state, or national level is an honor not to be taken lightly.

All candidates are young women, ages 18 through35 inclusive, who are members of DAR and have been selected and encouraged by their respective chapters. Each candidate requests an Outstanding Junior application form from her state Junior Membership Committee chairman or chapter regent. She completes the contest application, and it is signed by the chapter regent and the recording secretary or treasurer. DAR experience and Children of the American Revolution (C.A.R.) senior leadership count for 75% while community service counts for 25%. A young woman who is active in DAR and her community in furthering of the DAR's historical, educational, and patriotic objectives, in accordance with the DAR motto, “God, Home, and Country” is an Outstanding Junior. A chapter may honor one of its Juniors as the chapter Outstanding Junior whether or not she has the points to enter the contest. Chapter winners may purchase a Chapter Outstanding Junior pin from J.E. Caldwell & Co.

Application forms for the Outstanding Junior Member Contest can be found here. Visit the Junior Membership Committee's web site for more information.

There's also a lovely certificate - suitable for framing! - available from the DAR Store for the low, low price of $1.00. Want to splurge on the pin? Get it here!

Application deadline for the OJ Contest is October 31st, so don't delay. Your chapter OJ will need to fill out the paperwork pronto!

Don't forget to give her a hug.
