Don Jose de Ortega Chapter

While enjoying a family reunion in
Maui, Don Jose de Ortega Chapter Registrar, Cathey Sinai, gathered up her
family members for some fun on the beach.
Their idea of fun? Volunteering
to pick up debris left behind by other less thoughtful vacationers. Says Cathey, “It really was fun and it was
nice to see other beach goers smile at us as we moved down the beach. 9 of us spent a combined total of about 9 hours walking the
beach and picking up debris. The kids really got into it. One who
was in the water when we started ran up part way through and complained loudly
that we started without her. We got 88 pieces of trash, but left the
rusted car axle we found 1/2 buried in the sand. Well worth the
effort. I would do it again in a heart
beat. Thought I'd feel goofy wandering down the beach with a trash bag -
not at all."
