(I apologize for not posting this sooner. I've been sick for several weeks, with no end in sight, unfortunately).
We had beautiful clear, cool, sunny weather for our ceremony at the Los Angeles National Cemetery. There were about 50 people present. U.S. Army Air Force Captain, Retired, Charles Allyn Lewis led the Pledge of Allegience. The Joint Services Color Guard presented the colors of all groups being honored.
The wreaths were presented by both retired and active military persons. The oldest presenter was Ruth Eddy, 92, who served in the Navy in WWII. She and Virginia Crystal, who served in the Army Air Corp in WWII and presented the Air Force wreath, are members of our Don Jose de Ortega Chapter NSDAR. Cynthia Nunez, Director of the Los Angeles National Cemetery, read the Opening Remarks. Odas Flake, Chairman of the LANC Support Group read the closing remarks.
There was a rifle salute and echo taps. Chaplain Stephen Smith gave the invocation and benediction. The extra wreaths we received were placed on the 19 graves of Operation Iraqi Freedom casualities by members of the audience.
We want to thank the Worcesters, Tobin, Wayne, Dennis, Wayne, and Sally for their help in putting this all together.
We got a late start this year, but we already have plans started for next year. We hope the WAA can be on a Saturday next year. This will allow those that work to participate.
Jane Stauss, Chairperson
Don Jose de Ortega Chapter
There was also a nice write-up in the Aerotech News online newsletter; however, the link to the article has been removed.
