Donna Chellew, Sheryl Valencia, Mary Alice Ambrose, and Sheryl's proud daughter celebrate Sheryl's pinning.
On December 22, 2008, Don Jose de Ortega Chapter Regent Donna Chellew and Mary Alice Ambrose attended the Pierce College nursing program's pinning ceremony.
Their scholarship recipient, Sheryl Valencia, as class secretary, gave the final words and presented the class. With verve and obvious emotion, Sheryl conveyed how much the program meant to all of them.
During the program, the 21 graduates, wearing white academic gowns, were presented with the nursing graduate's pin. Each one was pinned by a relative; Sheryl's little daughter gave her the badge of completion.
Afterwards, we found Sheryl and met her proud husband and daughter. Sheryl again expressed her enormous gratitude for the small scholarship provided by the Don Jose de Ortega Chapter. "It really made a difference," she said.
