Robert Mesta Honored as "Outstanding American Indian" at 101st State Conference

The featured speaker at the 101st California DAR State Conference's American Indian Breakfast on 15 March 2009 was Robert Mesta. He was involved in the California Condor Project and now works out of Tucson, Arizona.

Robert has been recognized for his work in ornithology. The American Indian Committee awarded him a certificate for being an "Outstanding American Indian" for being a positive role model (Robert is Yaqui).

California State Regent Leonora Branca and Arizona State Regent Jo Andress presented Robert Mesta with the NSDAR medal for Conservation. Ann Winchell, Co-Chairman, American Indian Committee, presented him with a king-size, hand made quilt featuring a flying eagle.

Robert Mesta has written a children's book about California condors; it would make a great chapter gift to your local library! To obtain copies of this book, autographed by the author, contact:
